This SHM-SACD release of Sibelius’ Finlandia & other lesser-known works performed by the legendary Berliner Philharmoniker led by the equally legendary Herbert von Karajan sounds fantastic in an uncompressed single layer DSD 2ch SACD format. The dynamic range is fantastic & the sound is soft & warm. It is so refreshing to be able to find a CD that is not involved in the loudness wars & hence is actually a relaxing & pleasing experience for the ears. This certainly ranks among the better sounding classical CDs in my entire collection. The packaging is also unique coming in foldable cardboard that opens up to reveal the CD in 1 of the squares. This is certainly not a mini-lp replica sleeve of the original vinyl release in case you are wondering. Overall there is little to complain about a great sounding release of a great version of Sibelius’ classics.
