Music for Tudor Kings
I love this CD. It is full of melodies heard long ago and half remembered. The Celtic musical temperament shines through, and one has a glimpse of the young Henry VIII “apprenticed” to the King his father, enjoying song and consort music in the Welsh mind and traditions,- between State duties and Court matters.
The Hilliard Ensemble get it so right every time.
The New London Consort are brilliant as usual.
This artistic combination gets pretty near the Time Machine for which I have longed all my life – If I close my eyes and let the imagination loose!
