In the spring of 2022, the composer Hans Zimmer set off on a triumphant European tour, for which he wrote new arrangements of pieces from the most iconic films of his career. This double album opens with an extract from his most recent blockbuster, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune (‘House Atreides’). A distinctly spiritual, guttural voice takes centre stage for this piece – one of the main gimmicks of the soundtrack as a whole. The first part of this double album proceeds with excerpts from other Hollywood highlights, including the impressive Wonder Woman Suite, where a powerful female chorus challenges clichés surrounding music in American action films. Long time fans will appreciate the extended suites from two Zimmer classics: Gladiator (featuring the voice of Lisa Gerrard) and Pirates of the Carribbean.

The second disc features another of Zimmers triumphs, The Lion King, which won him an Oscar in 1994. The more minimalist (and somewhat liturgical) soundtrack to Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar has pride of place on this album, alongside his robust soundtracks for The Last Samurai and The Dark Knight. Zimmer’s sparkling reinvention of the famous James Bond theme is also worth a listen (’No Time To Die Suite’). Alongside his 20-piece band ‘The Disruptive Collective’, as well as the orchestra and choir of the Odessa Opera, the German-born composer is at the top of his game here, skillfully mixing classical arrangements, rock elements and synthesisers.

“Hans Zimmer LIVE” features more than two hours of new reimagined arrangements of some of the most popular compositions by the L.A.-based composer icon. Sony Classical is pleased to present the album as a limited 4 x 180 g audiophile vinyl set, that comes in a quad-fold with 4 printed inner- sleeves. The packaging features a personal note by Hans Zimmer, stories on how he met his fellow band musicians, illustrations, and photos. The vinyl is mastered as a direct-to-metal cut. Also a x2 CD format. The album was recorded during the highly successful same-named concert tour in Europe in the spring of 2022 for which Zimmer created new “suites” from some of his most recognizable themes and melodies from the Oscar-winning scores for Dune and The Lion King, as well as such contemporary classics as The Dark Knight, X Men: Dark Phoenix, Dunkirk, Gladiator, Inception, Interstellar, The Last Samurai, Man of Steel, James Bond: No Time to Die, Pirates of the Caribbean and Wonder Woman 1984. Together with his 20 piece-band “The Disruptive Collective” featuring a gallery of long-time musical companions, the Odessa Opera Orchestra and Choir, Hans Zimmer has created an epic musical spectacle melding atmospheric classical arrangements and electronic elements into the powerful sound of a rock band. Hans Zimmer plays multiple instruments on the album and is accompanied by musicians who have been working together with him for a long time such as the singers and composers Lisa Gerrard (Gladiator), Lebo M. (The Lion King) and Loire Cutler (X Men: Dark Phoenix), cellist Tina Guo (Wonder Woman) and Nick Glennie-Smith (musical director of the band). Other soloists include Andrew Kawczynski (synthesizer, percussion), Pedro Eustache (wildwoods), Refi (vocalist), Rusanda Panfili (vocals) and many others. Hans Zimmer has scored more than 500 projects across all mediums, which, combined, have grossed more than 28 billion dollars at the worldwide box office. He has been honoured with two Academy Awards®, three Golden Globes®, four Grammys®, an American Music Award, and a Tony® Award. His work highlights include Dune, No Time to Die, Gladiator, The Thin Red Line, As Good as It Gets, Rain Man, The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, Thelma and Louise, The Last Samurai, 12 Years A Slave, Blade Runner 2049 (co-scored w/ Benjamin Wallfisch), Dunkirk, and the Planet Earth II Theme, as well as recent film scores including Top Gun: Maverick, Wonder Woman 1984 and Kung Fu Panda and others.
