Wolfgang the King and Ingrid his Queen

I first heard Ingrid Haebler playing Mozart when I listened to some of her recordings from my father’s large LP collection, and now I have this set, which every Mozart lover must have. Ingrid Haebler knows that Mozart should be played with taste and not bombast. She refuses to make the music maudlin by adding grace notes or trills which aren’t in the score; instead, she plays it as it is written and lets it speak for itself (forgive the cliché). Listening to her play, for example, the Larghetto of the 26th Piano Concerto, you can see how well she understands Mozart’s famous statement: “Love, love, love, that is the soul of genius.”

  1. Great !!!
Pitty it lacks documentation on the recordings.
Scans of the booklet, or at least just the pages containing the concertos recorded would have been splendid.

  2. I was sampling what appeared to be an ideally performed set of the Mozart Piano Concertos when, unfortunately, I heard some very bad distortion at the very beginning of the first movement of the 11th concerto in F Major. Was this in the original pressing or was it due to a ripping problem?
