The American composer George Antheil (1900–59) enjoyed the sobriquet ‘Bad Boy of Music’ thanks to the mechanistic scores of his early career. This anthology of piano music from the last twenty years of his life reveals a muse that could also be affectionate, flirtatious and capricious. But the ‘Bad Boy’ occasionally re-emerged, as in the diabolical mischief of the wild, peppery, Prokofievan toccatas also recorded here. This is the first of two albums presenting the less well-known parts of Antheil’s piano output and it contains a number of first recordings. Judy Pang, currently based in New York, has made frequent solo appearances at Steinway Hall, Yamaha Piano Salon, Greenfield Hall and Staller Recital Hall. She obtained her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Melbourne in 2006, her Master of Music degree at the Manhattan School of Music, and, in 2015, her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Stony Brook University.
