With his album “Le Baroque,” the Russian master guitarist took on an ambitious and musically innovative project and carried it out with impressive virtuosity and top-notch musicality.
Finkelstein uses his guitar to perform baroque music that was originally written for the viola da gamba, probably the favorite instrument at the royal courts in the 17th century. He was inspired by the realization that the viola da gamba resembled the guitar in many aspects, so he studied the works of four major composers from the time of Louis XIV and gave them a beautiful musical expression by transcribing them for the guitar.
