ATMA Classique is pleased to present Femmes de legende, the debut solo album by pianist Elisabeth Pion, featuring works by three giants of the 20th century, Debussy, Dutilleux, and Boulanger, along with “Femmes de legende” by late-Romantic composer Mel (Melanie) Bonis, and the “Berceuse” from opera The Exterminating Angel by Thomas Ades.

“To me, releasing this recording is in a way giving birth to my artistic vision,” says Pion. “I hope that you will joyfully rediscover works you already know, and that you will have the pleasure of getting acquainted with music that has simply been patiently waiting to cross the threshold of your auditory canal in order to be appreciated! This album is representative of my interests and natural inclinations, and I have for a long time been feeling a strong affinity with French repertoire. My recent encounter with Thomas Ades has inspired me to allow myself a little misdemeanour regarding this French exclusivity.”

An enquiring and innovative artist, pianist Elisabeth Pion enjoys an active career internationally as a soloist, chamber musician, and artistic collaborator. She made her Wigmore Hall solo recital debut in 2021, her BBC Radio 3 broadcasting debut in 2019, and presented a solo and collaborative recital at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall in 2022. She has notably played concertos with the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, the Victoria Symphony, Arion Orchestre Baroque, the Orchestre classique de Montreal and the Ensemble Volte, and has collaborated with numerous conductors, notably Alain Trudel, Thomas Leduc-Moreau, Jacques Lacombe, Genevieve Leclair and Mathieu Lussier. Elisabeth is also part of the De Beauvoir Trio, Chamber Ensemble in Residence of the Britten Pears Young Artist Program 2022.
