Delightful recording of Bruckner’s youthful symphony
This is a delightful and fresh recording of Bruckner’s student symphony, called ’00’ because there was already a published ‘0’ or “Nulte” symphony. Ashkenazy does not try to make something inappropriately massive of it. Although Bruckner’s teacher may have suggested Schubert or Mendelssohn as models, it still sounds like Bruckner to those who know his later works. There are some excellent alternatives by Skrowaczewski on Oehms and Tintner on Naxos if you have difficulty finding this. Orchestra is excellent and recorded sound outstanding
