This album encompasses four piano concertos by four Italian composers, two of which are first recordings.

The music, featured here in chronological order, spans an extended period of time, from 1900 to 2015. The intention of the project is clear: to propose a trajectory that through this repertoire, not so frequent among Italian composers, allows discoveries, re-discoveries and new reflections on historic works.

No other country has had a greater impact on the development and innovation of Western music than Italy. From notation systems to the invention of different musical genres, Italian music theorists, pedagogues, composers and artists have played an indispensable role in the creation of new musical forms.

Encompassing music from the post-Romantic style of composer Guido Alberto Fano to one of today’s leading Italian compositional voices Cristian Carrara, as well as the highly original musical language of Luigi Dallapiccola and Silvio Omizzolo, this recording provides a rare opportunity to experience the contributions of four Italian composers from the modern era to the literature for piano and orchestra.

Pianist Roberto Prosseda, a champion of Italian contemporary music and undiscovered piano music from the old masters, is the protagonist and the motor behind this project.

“Grateful for the opportunity to share this extraordinary music with the world, I hope this recording will contribute to Italy’s well-deserved place in the piano concerto genre, and delight audiences around the globe.” Nir Kabarett
