I believe that this is the finest recording of the Vaughan Williams Fifth. Why? Because the Symphony (as well as the Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis) employs the orchestral effect Vaughan Williams was noted for: the massed string choir. Accordingly, the orchestra of the Curtis Institute of Music, which is a center for the world’s finest violinists, both teachers and students, provides the finest string sound you will ever hear. It’s a beautiful recording.
