Sometimes I’m observant, and others I’m a dumbkopf: I saw this guy with a violin in his hand and wondered how how was going to solo play the Brandenburgs of Bach.
Then I listened: no solo violin; so what is he?
Then I read your explanation, and the dude is a Conductor.
