The songs of this compilation in the rare combination of tenor, clarinet and piano were composed over a period of 20 years, between 1828 and 1848. In terms of their tonal language and their basic poetic attitude, the songs by Schubert, Meyerbeer, Spohr, Kreutzer, and Lachner are characteristic of the early Romantic self-conception. The poets and composers perceived the natural phenomena they enthusiastically described as reflections of their own of their souls; moreover, nature is also the idealized refuge for the artist who is misunderstood by his fellow men and the unhappy lover. The tenor Werner Güra is one of the best-known Lied singers of our time and can look back on an extensive discography. This recording is his debut for Pan classics.
