Amazing… Thank you for sharing!
I guess the DG release is a subset of this one.
DG’s issue is a subset of this. But what make this issue important is that this is transfered from the master tapes USSR took from Germany, while the DG issue was just transfered from copies (Though people of USSR told Germans they were the master tapes when giving them back, which is a long story). Even the transfer technique of Melodiya is not the best, this issue still gives out one of the best results of restoring Furt’s wartime recordings.
However, several recordings here are considered not real Furt’s performances these days due to the recent research. I don’t remember it clearly which ones they are, but you can always search internet to get the answer.
BTW, the one that was claimed as “limited edition” is the 16 CD with the box (as you can see the picture above), but those CDs are also sold individual, which are not limited and you still can buy them easily if you wish.
Hi, I poked around quite a bit, on the net, and could not locate a source questioning the authenticity of some of these recordings. Do you have, even a hint, of where I might research this. There are hardly any reviews of this set–apart from this blog. The Beethoven 9th posted here in boxset. ru appears to have been taken from the 16 CD set. And I think it sounds amazing, sound wise, compared with the more famous April 19, 1942 (“Hitler’s Birthday Party”) concert. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, z
