Nice recording of lesser known Tchaikovsky
I must disagree with the two reviewers ahead of me. I am very pleased with this album. Occasionally, yes the sopranos are a bit overbearing, and the vibrato is perhaps overused for the style of music (I’m not sure, I’m no expert), but I found it very enjoyable.
The version of the first of the 9 Sacred Choral Works (Cherubic Hymn) is one of my favorite recordings of the Russian choral music I have in my library. Certainly on this piece, none of the previous critiques hold. Really, my biggest complaint is that the recording does not contain the complete pieces, only selected numbers.
