Of the concerts Otto Klemperer (1885-1973) conducted in Germany after the war those with the Bavarian Radio Orchestra in Munich (1956, 1957, 1965, 1966 and 1969) may rank second in number (after Cologne), but the three live recordings published here are perhaps even more revealing for Klemperer’s interpretative style during the mid-1950s, as he obtains orchestral playing that responds effortlessly to his demand for clarity of detail and structural breath.
