FABULOUS FLAGSTAD AT TWILIGHT
All the items on these CDs have been available before, but Decca made a wonderful decision to release all of these recitals together in one big box to constitute a huge tribute to the artist who was in possession of arguably the greatest dramatic soprano of the Twentieth Century. Flagstad, although rightly associated with Wagner more than any other composer, stood as an extremely persuasive singer of Lieder, not only in German, but also of her own native Norwegian. There are so many beautiful things here that have been available to the music public for such a long time, that it hardy makes sense to go into detail on the actual contents.
The sound on these disks are first rate, and the entire presentation is well worth the price being asked by Amazon.
The truly amazing thing here is that virtually all of these items were recorded AFTER Flagstad’s 60th birthday, a period which found her officially retired from the opera and concert stage, but STILL in command of her magnificent voice. In fact, the middle and lower notes are far fuller and more beautiful than they were years earlier. Even MORE amazing is the fact that she kept her great voice until the very end of her life in 1962. Voices like this come along once in a century and I cannot think of a better way to celebrate Flagstad than on this wonderful box set. No one interested in great singing should be without this box set. Although certainly not everyone will love every single item on here, there’s more than enough here to satisfy everyone. I wholeheartedly
urge any Flagstad fan to purchase it, Yes, it’s THAT good!!
thank you, again
Fantastic upload. Many thanks, it really is a treat.
Thank You!
Thanks
thank you very much!!!!
When I saw this post I was disappointed because I thought, “Oh, Kirsten Flagstad Edition 10 CD Box set, I must be dreaming. I guess I’ll just wait here ’till I wake up.” When I realized I wasn’t going to wake up and that this was a real post my excitement was increased greatly. I recently purchased an LP boxset of Das Rheingold with Kirsten Flagstad performing for 3 US dollars! Perfect timing for this shall accompany it well. Thank you so much, Whatever!
Thank you so much! Do you also have Sutherland’s Complete Recitals? I would very much appreciate it if you could also post those. Thank you once more.
