Nice recording
I had doubts about the conductor because of his very respectable age, but he does a fine job here. I suspect he knew the score by heart. This is the only recording with Nilsson and Gedda together and they both do a fine job. Nilsson lightens her voice to good effect, and a little heavier sound makes a fine contrast to the sparkling Köth. It was reported that Nilsson was very delighted to be offered to record her debut role, Stockholm 1946, as – at that time – a last minute stand-in. Her knees trembled… By some mysterious reason this recording made by Electrola was – during the LP era – never released in Great Britain. If you have the possibility to buy the LP box you will be confronted with one of the most beautiful and fascinating box cover picture ever made!
Thanks!
