Olivier Messiaen about his “Turangalîla-Symphonie”: “The ‘Turangalîla-Symphonie’ is a love-song. It is a hymn to joy, to a superhuman, overflowing, blinding and inordinate joy. The concept of love is also regarded from this point of view: by this is meant fateful, irresistible love, surpassing and overrunning everything, love symbolised by Tristan and Isolde’s love potion.”
