A seminal contribution to the discography of 20th-century American classics: a two-disc compilation of the complete symphonies of Lukas Foss (1922-2009). Foss’s was a definitive voice in the mid-century evolution of American art music, and his highly original output engaged a diverse set of traditional and modern influences: Baroque, folk, jazz, minimalism, electronics, and more, as well as contemporary literature and poetry. BMOP has previously recorded Foss’s cantata The Prairie, set to texts of Carl Sandburg, and is excited to now present his four engaging and evocative symphonies, spanning the years 1944 to 1995.
