Thanks!
After reading the comments, I’m eager to listen and see if the sound technicians really were truck drivers selected at random from off of the street. I think I’m missing many, many of Rachmaninov’s gems. It is only a matter of time before I succumb to the temptation to open a FF account.
Thank you Bob and Whatever.
Thruly a wonderful voice.powerfull and nice,i heard him at the met,i believe that him and di Stefano are the best in the post war era
Thanks a lot. What a beautiful voice!!!
allthough i’m believing he is one of the greatest Tenors ever – and he is one of those rare stentor voices who could also sing quiet lyric i have some Problems with his lisp pronunciation.
He sings in brilliant notes the “Nessun dorma” but there are so much ss and z Sounds in the aria.
Nessun dorma
Nessun dorma

Or is it the bad recording technologie of the past which could not reproduce his high notes with his power without clipping.
Ah, Guennl007, what is it I’m missing when I listen to the EMI Nessun Dorma? No doubt you are a better technician than I, for my technical skills are nil.
However, have you ever listened to live performance recordings of Corelli, particularly of Turandot?
I sense no lisp as you style his performance on the EMI recording, nor when compared to live recordings do I sense technical splicing on his Nessun Dorma’s.

Had he needed that in his live performances he’d have the reputation of a fraud; which certainly is not the case. Listen to the complete MET Turandot on you Tube, or his 1960 Monte Carlo encore of Nessun Dorma.

Bob (and specially Guennl007)
If you ever have heard Corelli on really good recordings (Take one of my rips, no matter which one) You would fall on your knees, begging for mercy…
Corelli is not an alien…so, if you hear some sibilants, it has nothing to do with the human speech and nothing to do with Corelli. Is only a issue due to very bad, ignorant sound technicians, who would better have started a carreer as truck drivers.
;)
My Bob, I know, your knowing of these things is OK…this is more addressed to Guennl007 than to you.
Thanks for your work and this note. my point is that a cheap recorder taking the opera down live in the house or off the radio will manifest that any singer is what he is without a fancy multi-tracked recording in a studio setting. The cheap recording shows that neither the lisp nor “clipping and splicing” is there. In Corelli’s case his high notes were there and real every time.
Bob
Well guess where I’ve seen this before?
Bob
where?
I am a fan.
Thank you very much.
Thank you Bob and Whatever.
