Lessons in placement.. Hooray! Domingo!

I have been on a Domingo binge as of late, and was stoked to find a Mozart arias album. Domingo’s rich, warm, joyous trumpeting sound provides an invaluable lesson in full-bodied, fully supported Mozart singing. Some think his voice too heavy for Mozart, which may be true in purist terms. Putting that aside, Domingo’s voice is well poised and shows us what a large voice must do with the tone: Which is to have the tone condensed and snuggly placed so that it is healthy and sustainable.

There are obvious challenges to singing Mozart with big voices, primarily to keep the voice buoyant and poised. To many aspiring tenors, I’m confident this album will be an exciting source for creative energy.
