The album is the world recording premiere of the oeuvre of the Poznań composer Stefan Poradowski, whose output, once known and enjoyed by a wide audience, has been unjustly forgotten. Stefan Bolesław Poradowski (1902-1967) was a musician, composer and teacher who rendered great service to Poznań and the Greater Poland region. His oeuvre underwent many stylistic changes reflecting the musical background of the era. His Double Bass Concerto, Op. 26 from 1929 is a work in the Neo-Romantic spirit (recorded in a new arrangement on this album).
The slightly later Symphony No. 3, Op. 29 is already immersed in modernist aesthetics, with clear influences of Szymanowski and with popular references to Polish folk music. A completely different face of the artist is presented by the Violin Concerto, Op. 70, which opens the album, performed for the first time in 1966. This piece already represents the Neoclassical style, experimenting with tone colour, not avoiding dodecaphony. All three works show Poradowski’s creative path against the background of a turbulent century with its changing styles.
The soloist in the Violin Concerto is Marcin Suszycki, concertmaster of the Poznań Orchestra, a violinist with extensive orchestral and chamber experience. The double bass is played by Piotr Czerwiński, a soloist of the Poznań Philharmonic Orchestra, a teacher and an extremely talented arranger of many pieces. Both artists are accompanied by the Poznań Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Łukasz Borowicz.
