One critic wrote that the string playing in this performance is one of the wonders of the modern world and hearing it it is difficult to disagree. This is simply one of the greatest performances ever put on record and even more remarkable because it was recorded live. The fact that Karajan allowed a live performance to be released in competition with a studio performance he had recorded a year before shows that he thought there is something special about it. Of course there are other ways of conducting presymphony that this is an outstanding example of Karajan’s genius.
Thanks!!
