Putting it in the best light, this is a performance that attempts to make the Bruckner Sixth more alive and urgent, less monumental and settled. That’s a direction I approve of, so a recommendation is all but automatic. Rattle brings a major podium talent to the score, which shows even if you don’t fully accept some of his interpretive notions.
