Schindler’s List – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Anne-Sophie Mutter, Lambert Orkis
In May of 2015, violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter gave a truly unique concert: rather than standing on stage in one of the world’s renowned well-tempered grand concert halls, she spent two evenings playing in a tiny graffiti-scrawled nightclub in Berlin. Recorded in front of a standing-room only audience, this new 2-LP release includes popular works by Bach, Copland, Gershwin, Tchaikovsky, Vivaldi and many more. Mutter is joined by Mahan Esfahani, Lambert Orkis and the Mutter Virtuosi.
This is one of the best-sounding records I have. Full of joy, beauty, and breathtaking power. Some of the songs slide along gently like leaves in a lazy stream and others are a punch in the gut. Mutter plays with an edge I cannot explain. Her playing of Vivaldi’s “Winter” has so much more power than I am used to hearing. But when she takes up “Theme from Schindler’s List,” she is all lightness and you feel as if you could push the notes over with a feather. And I could listen to her play Bach and DeBussy’s “Clair de Lune” on into the Eschaton.
A great record for anyone wanting to dip their toes into classical music.
