I certainly won’t claim to have heard every recording of this comparatively rare piece, nor pretend that at c.46mmins this isn’t short measure for a CD and they might just as easily include the early String Quartet as a makeweight.
All the same, this is an eminently suitable recording of the heartwarming quintet. I was led to it after reading a review of the l’Archibudelli version (Sony) and comparative listening made me more inclined to the Alberni.
I would recommend it ahead of the Raphael and Amadeus Quartets.
This, together with the Organ works recorded by Horn, offer a rare insight to the lesser known music by Bruckner. This CD also complements the complete set of symphonies and the arrangement of the adagio from this quintet arranged by the conductor S. Skrowaczewski. Thank you for these gems!!
Thanks
Thank you for this part of concern. There is remarkably often something special about these genre unica, a worth in addition to their number among plurals in the composers’ productions.
