The ‘Opus Clavicembalisticum’ by Kaikhosru Shapurji Sorabji (1892-1988) is a work of unprecedented complexity, considered to be one of the longest and most complicated pieces ever written for piano.
The composer radically expanded the boundaries of what had previously seemed possible in piano music and created what remains one of the most fascinating and challenging works in the field of classical music.
The pianist Daan Vandewalle is one of the few pianists in the world to have mastered Sorabji’s entire Opus Clavicembalisticum captured here on an exclusive 5CD set. Daan Vandewalle enjoys an international reputation as new music specialist, with a strong focus on 20th and 21th century American piano music. He studied at the Conservatory of Ghent, Belgium with Claude Coppens and at Mills College, California with Alvin Curran. He gave concerts and lectures devoted to American music throughout the world. He is a fellow of the Belgian-American Educational Foundation and teaches piano at the conservatory of Ghent, Belgium.
