This 3 CD set was recorded live at the 2003 Lugano Festival and presents an excellent variety of repertoire and ensembles represented during the 15 concerts. The discs include Rachmaninov’s Six Morceaux for four hands – a work that Martha Argerich has never recorded before. A special highlight of this collection is the bonus disc ‘Late Night Lugano’ recorded into the early hours of the morning.
This features the astonishing improvisatory talents of Argentinian pianist Gabriela Montero, plus violinist Géza Hosszu-Legocky with the Five Devils ensemble playing Hungarian, Romanian and Gypsy music. The set also features Virgin Classics artists and brothers Renaud and Gautier Capuçon, and Alexander Gurning and Polina Leschenko both of whom have albums in the ‘Martha Argerich Presents’ series.
