An aristocrat of the string world is united with one of its most exciting newcomers for this major new concerto release on Sony Classical. First joint album by Anne-Sophie Mutter and Pablo Ferrández – a musical team for many years, united by friendship, inspiration and mentorship, is now available as a double vinyl LP and single CD.

The album includes Brahms’s Double Concerto (live recording, Prague, January 2022) with the Czech Philharmonic and conductor Manfred Honeck. The Concerto is a chamber work with symphonic impact: a piece built on confrontation at whose heart lies the most beautiful expression of love from musicians entwined in an embrace.

Another piece on the album is Clara Schumann’s Piano Trio (studio recording, September 2021) with pianist, long-term collaborator, and friend Lambert Orkis, which is the first recording of this piece by a major artist. For Anne-Sophie Mutter diversity also played an important role in the repertoire selection to also highlight a female composer neglected by music history. Clara Schumann’s Piano Trio of 1846 is one of her finest works – a piece full of turbulence, complexity and deep longing that brought Anne-Sophie Mutter and Lambert Orkis to unprecedented depths of musical conversation.

According to Anne-Sophie Mutter Brahms and Clara Schumann go hand in hand. “Both adored each other artistically and Johannes Brahms often asked her advice”. Their human and artistic relationship tied them together and inspired them.

Anne-Sophie Mutter discovered the Spanish cellist’s extraordinary talent early on. Described by her as “someone truly special” the world star violinist invited him in 2018 into her foundation and circle of “Mutter’s Virtuosi”, young talents she supports and tours with. Since then, Pablo Ferrández has made himself a name on his own, developed into a sought-after, award-winning soloist home at the world’s most prestigious concert halls.

As one of the greats of the classical music world since her childhood collaborations with Hebert von Karajan, violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter needs no introduction. Alongside her superlative musicianship and standing, she has always sought to help and support new generations of string players – and to advance her own ability to communicate through the violin.
