Vox Cantoris

The Vox Cantoris ensemble (“The Cantor’s Voice) was founded by Jean-Christophe Candau in 2000 in the French region of Alpes Maritimes. Since 2007, the ensemble has been based in La Réole, in Gironde, and contributed as early as 2009 to the creation of the town Festival de Musiques Anciennes (festival of ancient music). The direct reading of the original score, lectern chant, ornamentation, are some of the main features of this research enterprise, sustained by studying musical treaties, collaborating with contemporary musicologists, and compilations of living oral traditions. The Vox Cantoris ensemble gave itself the mission to reinvigorate this musical heritage, monodic and polyphonic, that dates from the high Middle-Age up to the 19th century.
