Flowing vocal melodies and the elegant charm of Hasse’s orchestral writing abound in L’armonica, which was Hasse’s and the poet Metastasio’s contribution to royal wedding festivities at Schönbrunn in 1769. Soprano Véronique Dietschy navigates her sweetly lyrical arias with comfortable assurance. For this occasion, Hasse composed what is believed to be the first music for glass harmonica and orchestra. Dennis James stylishly plays the sensitive glass harmonica music, with its tingling, exotic texture mingling with the gentle horns and the soft string-playing of the Stradivaria Ensemble. Delectable stuff.
