As with their other releases, on A Tenors Christmas, the Three Tenors — Jose Carreras, Placido Domingo, and Luciano Pavarotti — share the spotlight on some songs and take it individually on others. “Oh Tannenbaum” and “Silent Night” are among their standout performances as a trio; soloist highlights include Pavarotti’s “Tu Scendi Dalle Stelle,” Carreras’ “Pregaria,” and Domingo’s “Un Nuevo Siglo.” The Tenors are at their best on A Tenors Christmas when performing traditional holiday songs and holiday pop numbers; their version of John Lennon’s “Happy Christmas/War is Over” is somewhat awkward, but fortunately most of the album delivers holiday cheer with a dramatic, operatic flair.
