Anna Zassimova invites us to a “virtual concert” in this two-part recital, programmed with her customary flair and originality. We are taken on a journey that follows that most Romantic trajectory – from darkness into light. From Brahms’ and Schumann’s turbulent passions to the latter’s scintillating portrait of Vienna, the artistic jewel of nineteenth-century Europe, she renders the images and emotions of the Romantic imagination in a palette of the most vivid colours. Anna Zassimova is internationally renowned for her many award-winning recordings and performances of the Romantic repertoire and of forgotten masterworks of the Russian repertoire. This is her second recording on the Melism label, following her acclaimed recital of Dvořák duets with Christophe Sirodeau.
